Dami’s Perspective
My journey with Dennis began in our university days, where we connected over the shared challenges of a Chemical Engineering master’s degree — thermodynamics and all. This collaboration culminated in our joint master’s thesis on comparing the life cycle costs of fuel cells and conventional power systems in data centres, a project that deepened my understanding of the powerful synergy between energy and technology. Even then, it was clear to me how crucial energy would be in driving technological advancements — and how technology could transform energy.
Throughout my career, I’ve focused on bridging the worlds of energy and technology. At Baringa, I contributed to developing energy market projections and renewable strategies for clients across Europe, gaining insights into the rapidly evolving landscape of sustainable energy. Later, at Arenko, I helped develop intelligent management platforms for renewable assets, pushing for cleaner, smarter energy solutions. Most recently, at S&P Global, I manage cross-commodity data products, incorporating AI-powered digital solutions to serve a broad spectrum of the commodity sector. These roles have shown me firsthand how intelligence can not only optimize energy efficiency but also open up new possibilities for managing resources.

Dennis’ Perspective
“I think I’ve always sensed, deep down, that creating advanced AI was possible. The human brain, after all, exists as proof of intelligence — and there’s no fundamental reason machines shouldn’t achieve it, too. For the longest time, though, I imagined this would take centuries, and that we’d need a near-perfect understanding of how the brain works to replicate it in machines. But reality had a different plan. With enough data and raw computing power, we essentially brute-forced our way to machine intelligence. And for me, that realization didn’t truly set in until I first used ChatGPT.
ChatGPT was like no other chatbot I’d encountered; it wasn’t just a tool — it felt like a mind capable of coding, something I’d spent years learning myself. Coding has always fascinated me, blending real-world challenges with abstract, adaptable solutions. Coming from a Chemical Engineering background, I had pushed myself into software development, cloud engineering, and DevOps to harness this powerful mix. Watching ChatGPT write code and tackle problems as if it had an insight — felt like magic. It was real intelligence, not just a trick, and it opened my eyes to what AI could do.
Then came GPT-4, and I knew: AI wasn’t just advancing — it was accelerating faster than anything I’d ever seen. This was where my passions for energy, computing, and software all converged. The future of AI relies on something as fundamental as energy. How will we fuel the vast computational demands of AI’s growth? And how will we distribute this power across the globe, making AI accessible to all? This is more than a technological shift; it’s a new industrial revolution, and the choices we make now will shape the world for generations.
